Our Approach

Empowering Through Education

Our approach emphasizes clear information, skill-building, and help-seeking literacy — without fear-based messaging.

For Parents

Parent & Caregiver Education

TOPS offers structured parent education sessions focused on fentanyl awareness and youth opioid and suicide prevention.

Sessions Provide Practical Guidance On:

  • Understanding illicitly manufactured fentanyl and counterfeit pills
  • Recognizing signs of opioid misuse or risk
  • Safe medication storage and disposal
  • The role of naloxone in overdose response
  • How to have direct, developmentally appropriate conversations with youth
For Youth

Youth Engagement & Skill Reinforcement

TOPS provides tools that reinforce prevention learning outside the classroom.

Split Second

Graphic Novel

Split Second follows a high school friend group navigating illicit fentanyl exposure, overdose risk, and recovery. The story-based format allows youth to explore peer influence, decision-making, and consequences in a structured, non-judgmental way.

The resource includes a companion discussion guide to support safe, guided conversations at school or at home.

Trust Hustle

Mobile App (Launching 2026)

Trust Hustle is an interactive mobile tool that reinforces refusal skills and assertive communication strategies introduced in Think Smart.

Through simulated peer-pressure scenarios, students practice:

  • Saying no confidently
  • Setting boundaries
  • Slowing down before making decisions
  • Identifying safe exits from risky situations
Mental Health

Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Awareness

TOPS integrates suicide prevention education as part of its Think SMART curriculum.

The instructional framework is trauma-informed and designed to avoid emotional pressure or forced disclosure. The focus remains on knowledge, safety skills, and access to support.

Resources

Referral & Resource Awareness

Understanding where and how to seek help is a core prevention skill. TOPS supports awareness of:

School-Based Counseling Services

Community Behavioral Health Providers

Prevention and Recovery Networks

Local Support Organizations

The emphasis is on strengthening help-seeking literacy so families and youth know what steps to take and where to turn if concerns arise.

Take Action

When to Seek Additional Support

If you are concerned about a young person’s safety or potential substance exposure:

1

Speak With School Staff

Speak directly with a trusted school administrator or counselor

2

Seek Medical Care

Seek medical care immediately in the event of suspected overdose

3

Contact Emergency Services

Contact emergency services if a life-threatening situation is present

Prevention Is a Shared Responsibility

Youth safety improves when families, educators, and community leaders share consistent information and reinforce the same protective skills.

TOPS exists to support that shared effort.
